How to Install Tongue & Groove Porch Decking

Tongue & Groove porch decking must be installed in an area that will always be protected from the rain. It is also best to install it with a slight pitch so that water can drain off the side.

Because exotic hardwoods are so dense, you will need to predrill all of your screw holes. These holes should be drilles right at the base of the tongue at a 45° angle.

Secure the porch decking board directly to the joists, not a subfloor, using stainless steel trimhead screws. This is necessary to provide ventilation underneath.

Slide the next board into place. It should cover up the previous screw.
